hello love my community members my name is Mister Misty is I am the 9th grade counselor and I wanted to share some really important crucial information with you tonight so number one this is our team guidance team and Associated people as you can see I am Miss Alicia's in 9th grade counselor you were Scholars should already be familiar with other people on our team always looking out for your students but I am in room 230 if you need me now how can a counselor help you go setting planning listening helping out with your schedules specially Miss Delridge and room 339 a great credit score basically any question you have we can help you or will try to connect you to somebody that can now I want to remind parents first and foremost starts at 8:20 a.m. minutes should be in the build 8:15 a.m. it is extremely important that your child comes to school at the start time a day 20 because we do not want them to miss class we do not want them to that first. Class and maybe you know fails and I do so well just because you're missing class now this is very important everything that happens from this point forward is the things that you do the things that you don't know come back and haunt you show you may have heard this word already why are credit so you are one crazy for each semester that you passed a class so if you take seven classes in a semester you have the opportunity to earn 7 credits towards graduation in order to earn a credit 5 or higher in the class that just means you must pass a Class Credit in order to graduate from high school credits if you look you're on the right we have a broken down by what areas you need those specific credits it now I wouldn't worry about it too much because this is what other counselors worry about what you need to worry about is making sure you passed every single class. at least a 65 / higher if you do not pass a class and that means you have to make up the credit so if you took English one and pass it in the next semester you'll be taking a but you also have to retake English one until you're able to pass it cuz you need a English credits which means you need an English every semester now I want to show you how zeros affect your grade both of these students have exactly the same grade except the skin on the left has 20 rows they got a 69 hybrid barely passed the scene on the right is actually the same grade except instead of getting zeros this sitting at a 50% which means they still failed but they failed better zeros will bring down your grade you should not be missing assignment handsome that's how you can so you will get $55 a month so you can pass your class must try even if you fail okay it's going to be way better than not turning in anything now what is your GPA so your GPA is your grade point average is a little bit different so every grade Fred class earned you some points so in a are you four points at be 3.62 points and d one point at the end of each semester these points are added up average that gives you your most current average credit tell you whether you're on track to graduate high school or not you have that pass classes you have to take your GPA tells you how oh you're doing throughout all of high school is going to tell you are you a student on average so credit until you graduate or not be a tells you how well you're doing now your GPA will not significantly improve your senior year that means if you get to your senior year and your GPA is very low it's going to be nearly impossible to break you must put in the word daily starting now the only way to have a high GPA a high grade point average is to do the work every single day make sure you pass your classes there is no elevator to success you have to take the stairs if you have to make sure you're coming to school every day going to all your classes and completing all your assignments if you do that every day you will be now he is we also offer advanced placement courses so taking AP classes and passing the AP exam at the end of the year will grant you college credit means when you College you will no longer have to take AP courses that we offer here are AP Statistics science and literature for high school credit right an account in those 44 credits that you have to pass what is also going to count for college credit so you won't have to take that class when you go to college now there's also a program called college now college now is her soon as that I want to take college classes when they're juniors or seniors and you need about an 80 GPA which is like a 3.3 or so to be able to take college classes and we actually have to partner College colleges for and John Jay College contact person if you get to your junior senior year you would go to Baruch or John Jay to take more classes I also want to tell parents we have a community healthcare Network here in the building they provide free axe school physicals Sports Physical Medicine vaccine emergency treatment so there's ever an emergency and they're the ones that your child Mental Health Services and nutrition services on Route 240 need the permission slip signed please so please bring those in as quickly as possible now we also have a lot of after-school activities around the building please look for Flyers we have a swimming team boys basketball girls softball cheerleading volleyball film club look for signs in the building and reach out to those Educators that are doing these clubs lastly I just want to mention a quick mention about the excels a scholarship if you do well in high school on your parents make less than $125,000 a year as long as you are a full-time student you get free college to I think it's too me and SUNY colleges in a great opportunity and that's it thank you for joining us and we look forward to
